Sri Ramanujar Engineering College was set up by the Swamy Educational Trust in 2002 to introduce advanced technical training and become an active part of community development. The college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. It is also accredited by NAAC and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

SREC offers six UG and four PG courses in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information technology, Management, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and so on. Located in Kolapakkam, Vandalur, Chennai, the college is well-equipped with facilities like a modern computer lab with latest configuration and internet connection, a resourceful digital library, special classes for special students and a canteen. The entire campus of SREC is Wi-Fi enabled with access points at all the academic areas. 

SREC students are encouraged to take part in sports like Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball and football along with Culturals, Symposiums and Conferences conducted by the college. The college is committed to promoting an intellectual culture that acts as an interface between academia and industry. The SREC management monitors and reviews its quality performance by implementing an effective management system from time to time.

The college is known for its placement record and the activities that it conducts prior to organising on and off-campus placement drives. Major companies like HCL, Pragyan Digicomm Solutions, etc. visit the campus to recruit eligible SREC students.
